Diabla Spaces: Eastern Columbia Lofts
12 June, 2024We immerse ourselves into the golden age of cinema to celebrate its valuable architectural heritage, a journey through dreamlike temples, which, around movie premieres and screenings, generated a rich social life in a combination of fantasy and emotions.
The Eastern Columbia building, an Art Deco delirium located in the theater district of the cinematic mecca, Los Angeles, is one such temple. Characterized by turquoise surfaces that capture attention across its thirteen floors, it was inaugurated in 1930 as a department store and soon became a landmark of the golden age of California architecture. In the 21st century, this icon has been transformed and renovated into a residential building.
Riding this wave of change, we envision its rooftops transformed into terraces for open-air socializing. Environments that blend chic and casual, set up to enjoy the current feature film.
The unique and fresh designs of the Trip collection, created by José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales and Borja García, can create impromptu spaces for leisure. Versatile and functional chairs, hammocks, and tables that reflect our open, cosmopolitan, and enthusiastic identity. “These pieces have a nomadic touch because they are light, easily transportable, and foldable. You can take them to any part of the house or to another space by car without much difficulty,” say the designers. The iconic Director Chair and the Sexy Hammock feature a white frame, with the lively and powerful Mustard standing out among the wide range of colors, in a striking contrast with the turquoise of the building.
The casual aesthetic of Trip allows for impromptu pop-up spaces, also equipped with the 356 collection, perfect for any season and created by José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales and Pablo Gironés, and the Gobi planters, also designed by Pablo Gironés. The mild climate of Los Angeles, which allows for a swim in the pool and various outdoor leisure moments throughout the year, is the icing on the cake.
